Knee Brace For Women – How To Get The Support You Need
June 16, 2009
Are you a woman that is looking for a quality knee support?
At the very end of this article we will show you how to find it, but for now we would like to point out some useful information about what to expect from a knee brace.
Important Information For You To Consider
Women are just as active in sports as men, but in a recent study of collegiate basketball players, the women were far more likely to tear their ACLs then men. – We do not wish for this to happen to you, but the study made a clear point that women are more likely to injure themselves in this way.
How A Well Designed Knee Brace Can Help
If you either want to help protect against a future injury, or you want to help prevent your current knee injury from getting worse you should seriously consider improving your knee support via a brace. Many times our customers will get back to us saying that they felt instant pain relief and improved stability the moment they put the brace on their leg. – True story.
The Difference Between Men’s & Women’s Leg Sizes
Typically, the measurements needed for a woman to get a knee brace are the same that a man would take. Many times, as we all know, our body shapes are different so you might think that there is a woman’s version of any knee brace. However, as we stated earlier the measurement process and brace selection follow the same standards.
The Essential Measurements You Need To Take ForĀ A Brace
Unless you get a custom knee support (which are usually far more expensive and this does not mean that you are necessarily getting improved support vs a non-custom brace), you will need to take a few very important knee measurements. Let’s give them to you below…
1.) A circumference measurement located at the area 6″ (15cm) proximal (above) your knee center.
2.) Repeat this process at your knee center. i.e. take a circumference measurement
3.) Take a circumference measurement 6″ (15cm) distal (below) your knee center as well.
Once you have this figured out you will be able to take these numbers online and figure out your size much more easily. Usually the measurement 6″ above your knee is the most important determining factor.
Mild, Moderate Or Severe Knee Problem?
Be ready to subjectively determine whether you think that you have a mild, moderate or severe knee issue. Always error on the more severe side of the rating when getting a brace, so you will be ready with the proper support when your knee issues flare up.
